CropRotaM

CropRotaM (Crop rotation, biodiversity, farm-level, living labs, digital technologies, sustainability) is a transnational EU research project promoting agroecological transition across the Mediterranean. Through Living Labs in 5 countries, it tests sustainable farming practices — crop rotations, biostimulants, and precision tools — to restore soil health, boost biodiversity, and support smallholder farmers. A concrete step toward climate-resilient agriculture.

Overview

CropRotaM promotes agroecological farming across the Mediterranean through sustainable crop rotations, biostimulants, and digital tools — restoring soil health and supporting farmers.

CropRotaM is a transnational research project addressing the growing agricultural and ecological challenges facing the Mediterranean region, where climate change, soil degradation, and unsustainable land use are threatening food security and farming viability.

The project promotes the large-scale adoption of agroecological practices — including diversified crop rotations, intercropping, microbial biostimulants, conservation tillage, and precision farming tools — across Living Labs in Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and Germany. Building on previous EU-funded projects, CropRotaM co-develops its solutions through a Multi-Actor Approach involving farmers, SMEs, advisors, and research institutions.

Aligned with the European Green Deal, CAP 2023–2027, and the EU Soil Mission, the initiative aims to reduce chemical inputs, restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen the socio-economic resilience of smallholder farmers. Its outputs include digital platforms for ecosystem service monitoring, new value chains around climate-resilient crops, and inclusive capacity-building programs that actively engage women and young farmers. Ultimately, CropRotaM seeks to transform fragmented agroecological experiments into a systemic, policy-aligned agricultural transition across the Mediterranean.
